Navratri Celebrations in Mumbai old rituals and new trends!

Navratri in Mumbai is a vibrant and energetic festival celebrated with great enthusiasm, spanning nine nights to honor the goddess Durga. It usually falls in September or October, depending on the Hindu lunar calendar. Here's what makes Navratri in Mumbai unique:

Garba and Dandiya Nights: One of the highlights of Navratri in Mumbai is the Garba and Dandiya Raas. Several venues across the city host large-scale events where people gather in traditional attire to dance to energetic beats.

Decorations and Pandals: Like during Ganesh Chaturthi, Mumbai's neighborhoods (especially in areas like Dadar, Powai, Andheri, Borivali and Thane) erect beautifully decorated pandals where idols of goddess Durga are displayed for worship. These pandals often attract large crowds, featuring elaborate designs and themes.

Fasting and Feasting: Many people observe fasts during Navratri, refraining from certain foods while consuming special vrat (fasting) foods. At the same time, food stalls around the city offer delicious vegetarian delicacies, including Sabudana Khichdi, Vrat Ka khaana, and sweets like Shrikhand.

Cultural Programs: Several cultural and devotional programs, including music and dance performances, take place in temples and public spaces, offering a blend of traditional and modern entertainment.
Pandal hopping is done all over in Kolkata has become a new trend in Mumbai now. There are various events organised by Bengali community starting from 6th day of Navratri. Also the Pandals have traditional bengali food and cloth stalls. The atmosphere is vibrant and electrifying, filled with excitement and devotion

Visarjan: On the 10th day, called Dussehra, the celebration concludes with the immersion (visarjan) of Durga idols in the Arabian Sea, symbolizing the goddess's return to her celestial abode.
